Meren Energy Advances Multi-Country Offshore Development Strategy
Meren Energy, formerly Africa Oil Corp, is advancing significant offshore oil projects across three African nations following its quarterly results update. The company’s strategic focus centers on developing Namibia’s Venus oil field, exploring South Africa’s Orange Basin prospects, and expanding Nigerian assets.
In Namibia’s Orange Basin, Meren holds an indirect interest in Impact Oil & Gas, partnering with operator TotalEnergies in Block 2913. Current Venus oilfield plans call for up to 40 subsea wells tied back to an FPSO with 160,000 barrels per day production capacity. The partners expect to complete front-end engineering design work and submit environmental impact statements in the fourth quarter, with a potential final investment decision in the first half of 2026.
In South Africa’s Orange Basin Block 3B/4B, where Meren holds an 18% interest alongside TotalEnergies, the first exploration well targeting the Nayla prospect could be drilled next year following completion of the legislative notification and appeals process.
In Nigeria’s deepwater Niger Delta Basin, Meren partners with TotalEnergies in PMLs 2 and 3, containing the producing Akpo and Egina fields. Drilling is scheduled to resume next year with an exploration well on the Akpo Far East prospect, which could contain up to 143.6 million barrels of oil equivalent.
