PetroGulf Smashes 40-Year Production Record With 56% Output Surge in Gulf of Suez
PetroGulf, a subsidiary of Ganoub El Wadi Petroleum Holding Company (Ganope), has raised oil production from its Gulf of Suez fields to the highest level since the company’s founding in 1982, delivering a striking turnaround that underscores Egypt’s drive to maximise domestic hydrocarbon output.
Current production stands at 26,600 barrels per day (b/d), a 56 percent increase compared to earlier levels in the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The near-10,000 b/d surge achieved within just five months is being attributed to the successful execution of an intensive work programme.
Key elements of the plan included the drilling of a new development well — North Geisum North-16 — which contributed roughly 4,000 b/d on its own. A comprehensive well workover and maintenance programme across the company’s Gulf of Suez assets added a further 6,750 b/d, carried out using two drilling rigs to accelerate delivery.
PetroGulf operates as an investment partnership between Egypt’s petroleum sector — through Ganope and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) — and international partners including Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC).
