TURKEY’S STATE ENERGY FIRM MAKES HISTORY WITH FIRST INTERNATIONAL FSRU DEPLOYMENT TO EGYPT

In a landmark development for Turkey’s growing energy influence, the country’s state firm Turkish Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAŞ) will deploy a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) abroad for the first time under a new agreement with Egypt’s state energy firm EGAS.

The historic announcement came during a meeting between Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar and Egyptian Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi in Ankara, marking the centenary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

“With the agreement signed between our national energy company BOTAS and Egypt’s public energy company EGAS, an FSRU from BOTAŞ’s fleet will be deployed abroad temporarily for the first time,” Bayraktar said, describing it as a flexible and efficient model supporting natural gas security for both countries.

The ministers also signed a memorandum of understanding institutionalizing broader energy cooperation in areas including oil, natural gas, geothermal energy, hydrogen, and critical minerals, opening a new chapter in Turkish-Egyptian energy relations.
