Libya’s Oil Production Surges as New Well Delivers Nearly 2,000 Barrels Daily
Libya’s oil sector has received a significant boost with the successful drilling of a new well in the Zliten field that is now producing a steady 1,985 barrels of high-quality crude oil per day, showcasing the country’s growing technical capabilities and production potential.
The C357H-6 horizontal well, located approximately 160 kilometers southeast of Tripoli, has been hailed as a major achievement by Masoud Suleiman, interim president of Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC), who commended the Sirte Oil and Gas Production and Processing Company (SOPC) for the successful drilling and testing operation.
What makes this breakthrough particularly remarkable is the technical approach employed by SOPC engineers, who completed the project without relying on complex or costly directional drilling techniques. Instead, they achieved success through precision planning, operational efficiency, and local expertise.
The extracted crude is water-free and of exceptional quality, reinforcing the Zliten field’s production potential and its strategic importance within Libya’s oil sector. NOC leadership highlighted the project as a powerful testament to the capabilities of Libyan professionals, who continue to drive progress by improving efficiency and reducing operational costs without compromising performance or quality.
The Zliten field’s development is considered a key component of Libya’s broader efforts to revitalize its oil production capacity and support national recovery goals through strategic energy sector investment. This success demonstrates Libya’s potential to rebuild its energy infrastructure using homegrown expertise.
