French Giant GTT Secures Major FLNG Tank Design Contract for African Deployment
French engineering powerhouse GTT has secured a significant contract from Samsung Heavy Industries for the design of LNG storage tanks on a new floating liquefied natural gas unit destined for deployment in Africa. The comprehensive scope covers the design of a sophisticated cryogenic membrane containment system with a total storage capacity of 238,700 cubic meters, incorporating GTT’s advanced Mark III technology.
The project represents a major milestone in Africa’s expanding offshore LNG sector, where FLNG solutions are increasingly recognized for their ability to rapidly deploy liquefaction capacity in remote offshore locations. The development highlights growing momentum in the continent’s natural gas industry as international energy companies seek efficient ways to monetize stranded gas reserves.
“We are proud to contribute our unique expertise to this major FLNG project, which will help harness Africa’s energy potential to support sustainable growth and energy supply,” declared Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT.
The contract underscores the increasing sophistication of Africa’s energy infrastructure development and the continent’s growing importance in global LNG supply chains. FLNG technology offers particular advantages for African gas developments by eliminating the need for costly onshore infrastructure while enabling faster project development timelines.
