Tullow Addresses Water Management Challenges at Jubilee Field Offshore Ghana

Tullow Oil has been working to resolve water-related production issues that impacted the Jubilee field offshore Ghana during the first half of 2025. The deepwater field experienced higher-than-expected water cut from certain wells, which affected riser stability on the eastern side of the field.

Following the introduction of riser base gas lift in the affected area, Tullow has successfully restored and stabilized normal production levels. The partners have now sanctioned extending this riser base gas lift system to Jubilee’s western flank, with implementation expected over the next few years.

Water injection levels fell below expectations due to extended planned maintenance and issues with the sea water lift system. Tullow is targeting restoration of water injection rates closer to the 300,000 barrel per day capacity later this year to provide improved pressure support across the field.

The recently onstream J72-P producer well is expected to boost overall production, with the next planned producer J73-P scheduled for completion around year-end. An additional four new wells are planned for 2026 as part of the ongoing development program.

Production from the nearby TEN fields has averaged 16,400 barrels per day, benefiting from the opening of a previously shut-in production interval in the Enyenra Field and optimized water injection. The TEN FPSO received a new flare tip in May, achieving a 50% reduction in routine flaring since installation.

The memorandum of understanding with Ghana’s government for license extensions to 2040 includes commitments to increase gas supply from current levels of about 100 MMcf/d to 130 MMcf/d, along with reduced pricing for Jubilee’s associated gas. The agreement also outlines development prospects including rights to drill up to 20 additional wells with estimated investment of up to $2 billion.

Tullow continues focusing efforts on infrastructure-led exploration activities in Ghana while exiting exploration licenses offshore southeastern Cote d’Ivoire and the Malvinas Basin offshore Argentina.
