KOTUG Reinforces West Africa Fleet with Two New Tugs for BP’s Mega Gas Project

Dutch towage and maritime company KOTUG International is strengthening its operations in West Africa with two RAstar 3200 tugs, SD Rosso and SD Chatboul, heading to Senegal to support long-term offshore terminal operations at BP’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim gas field.

The sister vessels boast 80 tonnes of bollard pull and feature top-tier safety and environmental specifications designed to provide reliable and sustainable support to offshore operations. The Greater Tortue Ahmeyim field, considered BP’s biggest project in its portfolio, achieved significant milestones this year with first LNG production from Phase 1 in February, inaugural cargo lifting in April, and commercial operations beginning a month ago.

BP operates GTA with a 56 percent interest, partnering with Kosmos Energy (27%), Petrosen (10%), and Société Mauritanienne Des Hydrocarbures (7%). The project represents a major development in West Africa’s liquefied natural gas infrastructure.
