Shearwater Geoservices Expands West African Operations with Ghana Deepwater Survey
Shearwater Geoservices has secured a contract to conduct Ghana’s first deepwater Ocean Bottom Node seismic survey, marking another milestone in the company’s expanding West African operations. The two-month survey over the Jubilee and TEN fields, operated by Tullow Oil and partners, is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The project continues Shearwater’s successful deployment of the SW Tasman vessel and Pearl node OBN platform across West Africa since late 2024. The company has conducted consecutive surveys in Côte d’Ivoire and Angola using the same technology combination, demonstrating the effectiveness of their deepwater seismic capabilities.
“These projects demonstrate Shearwater’s role in pioneering new technology in new regions, delivering operational excellence and industry-leading survey efficiency and data quality,” said Irene Waage Basili, CEO of Shearwater. “By delivering the first OBN project in Ghana, we are opening new geophysical frontiers.”
The Jubilee and TEN fields have been central to Tullow’s operations for nearly two decades. This first deepwater OBN survey is expected to significantly improve reservoir imaging, providing crucial insights for future field development and production strategies. The survey follows an earlier streamer survey conducted by Shearwater over the same fields in 2025.
Simultaneously, Shearwater has been awarded a two-month deepwater OBN survey contract by Esso Exploration Angola Block 15 Ltd., utilizing the SW Tasman acquisition vessel with Pearl node system and SW Gallien as source vessel.
