Nigeria Reaffirms Bid to Host 2030 Commonwealth Games in Abuja
President Tinubu pledges full government support as Nigeria competes with India for hosting rights.
Nigeria has restated its determination to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Abuja, a move that would make it the first African nation to stage the multi-sport event.
President Bola Tinubu, through his Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, welcomed the Commonwealth Games Bid Evaluation Committee to Abuja and assured that Nigeria is “ready and committed.”
The bid highlights environmental sustainability, infrastructure, and inclusion of 15 sports, including football, to maximize engagement.
Nigeria faces competition from India’s Ahmedabad, with the host city set to be announced in November 2025.
Hosting the Games would mark a major milestone for African sports, but questions remain about funding, infrastructure, and security readiness.
