Nigeria Achieves 97% of OPEC Production Quota Despite Slight Monthly Decline

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission reported that Nigeria produced 97% of its 1.5 million barrels per day OPEC quota in May 2025, representing a slight 2% decline from April’s 99% output. The country’s combined crude oil and condensate production totaled 1.81 million barrels per day, comprising 1.45 million barrels of crude oil and 204,493 barrels of condensate daily.

May production showed daily averages ranging from a low of 1.61 million barrels to a peak of 1.81 million barrels per day. The total represented a decline from April’s 1.48 million barrels crude oil and 141,546 barrels condensate production, which achieved 99% of the OPEC quota with 1.68 million barrels combined output.

The regulatory commission’s data showed March production at 1.40 million barrels per day. While NUPRC provided production figures, the specific reasons for the 2% decline in May output could not be immediately determined, as the commission was unavailable for comment on the decrease.

Nigeria’s production performance remains crucial for OPEC quota compliance and the country’s broader economic stability, with oil revenues forming a significant portion of government income and foreign exchange earnings.
