Morocco’s Akwa Group Strategically Expands into Senegal with New Oil Storage Facility
Moroccan energy and petroleum distributor Akwa Group has successfully launched an oil storage facility in Bargny-Sendou, Senegal, approximately 30 kilometers from Dakar, featuring natural gas processing capabilities designed to enhance the country’s energy infrastructure.
The strategic project arrives as Senegal begins oil production from its Sangomar field, with the facility positioned to support regional energy distribution and align with Akwa Group’s expansion strategy across West Africa, building on existing operations in Ivory Coast and Cameroon.
The development reflects Morocco’s growing economic influence across Africa, with 54 Moroccan firms, including 39 private companies, generating combined revenue of $55.9 billion continent-wide according to the 2025 Jeune Afrique ranking, underscoring the country’s expanding economic footprint.
