Libya Fires Up Farigh–Brega Gas Pipeline in Major Step Toward Energy Stability

Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) has officially launched the first phase of a new gas pipeline linking the Farigh field to the coastal city of Brega, marking a significant milestone in the country’s long-running effort to revive and expand its energy infrastructure.

The first phase covers the section connecting the gas pipeline from the Farigh field at the receiving point in the Zueitina axis — specifically at field 103A — to the 42-inch pipeline running from the Zueitina axis to the connection point at kilometre 91 within the pipeline network of the Sirte Oil and Gas Production and Manufacturing Company.

Gas pumping operations have already commenced, with pressure balancing actively underway. The NOC confirmed that this section has been commissioned and fully integrated into the operating system. Gas flows from field 103 are expected to be channelled into the Sirte Company’s network in Brega and subsequently into the national coastal grid before the end of the current month, materially boosting supply volumes.

The pipeline launch is part of broader NOC initiatives to increase gas production capacity and reduce the fuel shortages that have repeatedly disrupted electricity supply and daily life across Libya. Completion of the full Farigh-to-Brega corridor is expected to further strengthen the country’s energy backbone as reconstruction of its hydrocarbon sector continues.
