Egypt’s Alexandria Refineries Showcase Expansion Plans to Boost Local Production
Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation Chairman Salah Abdel Kerim recently toured three major refining facilities in Alexandria, reviewing strategic expansion initiatives designed to strengthen Egypt’s energy security and reduce import dependence.
At the Middle East Oil Refinery (MIDOR), Chairman Amr Lotfy presented progress on expansion projects that have increased refining capacity by 60%. The enhanced capacity is expected to significantly reduce Egypt’s import bill while conserving valuable foreign currency reserves.
During his visit to Amreya Petroleum Refining Company (APRC), Abdel Kerim reviewed comprehensive maintenance plans scheduled for September. The maintenance will be conducted entirely using EGPC’s internal technical expertise, aligning with the corporation’s policy of maximizing self-reliance and controlling costs.
At Alexandria National Refining and Petrochemicals Company (ANRPC), Chairman Sayed El-Rawi highlighted the company’s environmental achievements, including the successful conversion of a boiler to hydrogen operation, significantly reducing the facility’s carbon footprint. The visit also addressed coordination between ANRPC and Alexandria Petroleum Company to ensure uninterrupted operations during upcoming maintenance periods.
