Egyptian Oil Minister Expands Cooperation with Chile’s ENAP Sipetrol

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has met with Chilean Ambassador Roberto Ebert and ENAP Sipetrol representatives to discuss accelerated cooperation in oil production and potential mining sector partnerships. The discussions focused on expediting ENAP’s operations in the West Amer Area in the Eastern Desert in collaboration with the Egyptian General Petroleum Company (EGPC).

ENAP Sipetrol, operating in Egypt since 1998 with investments in the Western and Eastern Deserts, committed $70 million in 2024 to operations in the East Ras Qattara concession for drilling four development wells and three exploration wells. The company also completed an $11.5 million seismic survey in the West Amer concession, advancing drilling operations to September 2025 instead of the originally planned January 2026 start date.

For the first time, the meeting explored potential mining sector cooperation, leveraging Chile’s globally recognized expertise in lithium and copper extraction. Badawi praised Chile’s mining capabilities and stressed Egypt’s interest in building partnerships for developing critical minerals value chains.
