Egypt Pioneers North Africa’s First Large-Scale Solar Oilfield Project

United Energy Egypt (UEE) has signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding with global solar leader LONGi Green Energy to deploy a 20-megawatt hybrid solar power system across six oil fields. The innovative project represents North Africa’s first large-scale application of Back Contract technology with LONGi’s proprietary HPBC 2.0 cells.

The system is expected to generate 24,800 megawatt-hours of annual clean energy, equivalent to powering more than 6,000 Egyptian households while avoiding over 14,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions yearly. The project integrates LONGi’s Hi-MO 9 modules with 24.43% high efficiency performance specifically designed for harsh desert environments.

UEE President Kamel Al Sawi described the partnership as a pivotal moment in redefining energy production in the oil and gas sector. The hybrid system combines solar panels with battery energy storage and diesel generators, targeting a reduction in diesel use by more than 70%.
