DRC and Tanzania Establish Joint Committee for Enhanced Oil and Gas Cooperation
The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Tanzania have agreed to establish a joint technical committee to strengthen cooperation in the oil and gas sector, following productive bilateral discussions between their energy ministers.
The decision was announced after a July 8 meeting between Aimé Sakombi Molendo, Minister of Hydrocarbons of the DRC, and Dr. Doto Biteko, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Tanzania. The committee will focus on updating the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2016 and developing a comprehensive roadmap for future collaborative activities.
A follow-up meeting is scheduled for July 28 for the signing of the revised MoU by both parties. The ministers also discussed the critical exchange of technical data related to oil and gas exploration and production in the Tanganyika Graben region.
Both nations emphasized the importance of developing cross-border infrastructure, including the Hoima-Tanga pipeline and the Dar es Salaam-Ndola-Sakania corridor, to support the growing energy needs of both countries. The enhanced cooperation is expected to facilitate better resource sharing and joint development opportunities in the region.
