Angola’s Energy Sector Attracts Major International Investment Commitments
Angola’s oil and gas industry has secured significant commitments from international energy giants, with major operators pledging to expand upstream projects, boost natural gas development, and strengthen the country’s position as a regional energy powerhouse.
ExxonMobil, maintaining its 30-year presence in Angola, secured a license extension for Block 15 in 2025 and is evaluating prospects in the Namibe Basin. The company, which has produced over 2.5 billion barrels and employs more than 200 skilled workers, emphasized its long-term commitment to maximizing existing assets while exploring new frontiers.
TotalEnergies brought two major projects online in 2025, adding 60,000 barrels per day to Angola’s production capacity. The company highlighted Angola’s role in advancing global offshore development innovation, with Country Manager Martin Deffontaines noting that “Angola’s progress in offshore development has set a global benchmark.”
State-owned Sonangol reaffirmed its dual focus on expanding upstream activities and supporting national economic goals across multiple sectors. The company aims to solidify its position through both onshore and offshore project advancement, serving as a catalyst for broader economic development beyond traditional oil operations.
Chevron highlighted its contributions to the Angola LNG project, which is approaching full capacity, positioning natural gas as a cornerstone for the country’s economic and energy transition goals. The company views gas as delivering reliable energy while fostering economic growth.
Cabship, celebrating 16 years of operations in 2025, has expanded its infrastructure and secured key contracts with operators including Angola LNG. The logistics company is developing an offshore diving and support venture in the Cabinda Special Economic Zone, demonstrating the sector’s growing diversification.
Meanwhile, AIM-listed Corcel has awarded a 2D seismic acquisition program within the KON-16 Block to BGP Geophysical, targeting 326 line kilometers of data acquisition starting in Q4 2025. The campaign will provide a 227% increase in seismic coverage, greatly enhancing subsurface imaging and prospect definition for potential drilling in 2026.
