MODEC has been selected to supply a SOFEC Internal Turret Mooring System for the Coral Norte floating LNG project offshore Mozambique, developed by Eni and partners CNPC, ENH, XRG and KOGAS, working alongside the Technip Energies-JGC joint venture to support integration and long-term performance.
With final investment decision reached in October 2025 and the hull launched in January 2026 at Samsung Heavy Industries’ Geoje shipyard in South Korea, the project remains on schedule for first LNG in 2028. Designed as an enhanced replica of the existing Coral Sul FLNG, Coral Norte will add 3.6 million tonnes per annum of liquefaction capacity.
MODEC Mooring Solutions Business Unit head Arun Duggal said the turret mooring system, which enables safe weathervaning and resilient operations in the Rovuma Basin’s metocean conditions, builds on the company’s track record from Coral Sul. A Technip Energies-JGC spokesperson said the partnership reflects a broader commitment to sustainable development in Mozambique.
