Angola’s Agogo FPSO Achieves Operational Milestone, Boosting Block Production by 120,000 BPD
The Agogo floating production, storage, and offloading unit has received its Provisional Operational Readiness Certificate, officially launching its 15-year charter and operational lease with significant implications for Angola’s oil production capacity. The certification follows successful production commencement in July 2025 and formalizes the comprehensive lease-and-operate agreement between FPSO developer Yinson Production and project operator Azule Energy at Block 15/06.
Yinson Production secured the contract in 2023 for provision, operation, and maintenance of the Agogo FPSO, which now operates alongside the existing Ngoma FPSO at the same location. The addition increases block production by 120,000 barrels per day, bringing total peak production to an impressive 180,000 bpd. The vessel’s operational timeline exceeded expectations, with arrival in Angola in May 2025, completion of mooring hookups in June, and first oil achievement in July. CEO Flemming Guiducci Grønnegaard noted the remarkable achievement of reaching first oil approximately four months ahead of schedule and just 29 months after contract award.
The Agogo FPSO distinguishes itself as the world’s first operating FPSO equipped with pilot carbon capture technology, alongside emission-reducing technology, automated process controls, and all-electric drives. This technological advancement aligns with industry sustainability goals while maintaining operational efficiency. Azule Energy CEO Adriano Mongini emphasized the vessel’s environmental credentials, stating that “the vessel’s low carbon footprint, highlighted by its pioneering role as the world’s first operating FPSO with carbon capture technology, demonstrates our commitment to efficient and sustainable operations.”
