Tanzania Accelerates Strategic Energy Projects as EACOP Nears Completion
Tanzania is advancing multiple major energy projects that promise to transform the country’s energy landscape and boost economic growth. The Ministry of Energy is overseeing seven strategic projects, with the East African Crude Oil Pipeline project reaching 65 percent completion and entering its final implementation stages.
Permanent Secretary Engineer Felchesmi Mramba announced that the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project, generating 2,115 megawatts, has been completed and is already supplying electricity to the national grid. The Liquefied Natural Gas project is in its final preparation phase, while studies for the Ruhudji and Rumakali hydropower projects have been completed.
The Tanzanian government has invested 1.12 trillion shillings as equity in the EACOP project, with over 200 local companies participating in various project tasks and expected to receive 1.325 trillion shillings for their contributions. Beyond economic opportunities, residents in areas traversed by these energy projects will benefit from household electricity connections, significantly contributing to community development.
