Zimbabwe Extends Invictus Energy Exploration Rights for Major Gas Discovery Push
Independent oil and gas explorer Invictus Energy has secured a three-year renewal of its exclusive prospecting orders (EPOs) 1848 and 1849 in Zimbabwe’s Cabora Bassa Basin, setting the stage for high-impact exploration activities. The new exploration phase will include drilling the Musuma-1 well, which targets an estimated 1.2 trillion cubic feet of gas and 73 million barrels of condensate.
Zimbabwe’s Mining Affairs Board has approved the renewal, with the licenses held through Geo Associates Ltd., Invictus Energy’s 80% owned subsidiary, following assignment by the Mutapa Investment Fund. The exploration blocks host multiple high-potential plays, including eight prospects on the eastern margin totaling 2.9 tcf of gas and 184 million barrels of condensate, along with five basin margin oil play prospects estimated to contain 1.2 million barrels of oil.
The renewal provides Invictus Energy with continued access to one of the region’s most promising unexplored basins, offering significant potential for major hydrocarbon discoveries in Southern Africa.
