World’s First Carbon Capture FPSO Begins Operations in Angola
The Agogo FPSO unit has received its Provisional Operational Readiness Certificate, marking the start of its 15-year charter and establishing a new milestone in sustainable offshore oil production. The vessel represents the world’s first operating FPSO with carbon capture technology, setting new standards for environmental responsibility in the industry.
Operated by Yinson Production under contract with Azule Energy, the Agogo FPSO joins the operational Ngoma FPSO at Block 15/06, increasing the block’s production capacity by 120,000 barrels per day. The vessel’s arrival and setup were completed ahead of schedule, achieving first oil in July 2025, approximately four months earlier than planned and just 29 months after contract award.
The FPSO features cutting-edge emission-reducing technology, automated process controls, and all-electric drives, demonstrating a commitment to efficient and sustainable operations. With the addition of the Agogo FPSO, Block 15/06’s peak production has been revised upward to 180,000 barrels per day.
Flemming Guiducci Grønnegaard, CEO of Yinson Production, described the achievement as “truly remarkable,” noting that the Agogo FPSO marks an important expansion of the company’s footprint in Africa and will contribute positively to Angola’s economic growth.
