Uganda Advances Clean Energy Goals with Major LPG Infrastructure Partnership

Vivo Energy Uganda and the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) have formalized a significant partnership to develop liquefied petroleum gas storage infrastructure at Kabalega Industrial Park. The collaboration supports UNOC’s mandate to integrate upstream gas production with domestic consumption while expanding facilities to meet growing local and regional LPG demand.

The partnership aims to establish comprehensive LPG storage and filling capacity linked directly to Uganda’s upstream production projects. Officials expect the initiative to enhance nationwide access to clean cooking fuels, supporting campaigns to boost domestic LPG use and reduce reliance on biomass, thereby protecting forests and improving public health.

“This partnership with Vivo Energy Uganda reflects our shared commitment to investing in cleaner energy solutions and advancing Uganda’s industrial development goals,” said UNOC CEO Proscovia Nabbanja. The project is projected to stimulate economic growth, create local jobs, and strengthen national content in Hoima and surrounding areas.

Vivo Energy Uganda’s Managing Director Joanita Mukasa Menya emphasized the project’s alignment with national energy goals, noting the company’s commitment to supporting government initiatives to modernize energy infrastructure and promote safe LPG use as a clean cooking alternative. The development represents part of a broader regional momentum complementing similar efforts across Africa.
