TotalEnergies Secures Strategic Congo Offshore Exploration Permit
TotalEnergies has been awarded the Nzombo exploration permit in the Republic of Congo, partnering with QatarEnergy and the national company SNPC. Under the partnership structure, TotalEnergies operates with a 50% stake, QatarEnergy holds 35%, and SNPC maintains 15% ownership.
The 1,000 square kilometer Nzombo permit is strategically located 100 kilometers off the coast of Pointe-Noire, positioned close to the Moho production facilities operated by TotalEnergies EP Congo. The work program includes drilling one exploration well, expected to spud before the end of 2025.
“This award of a promising exploration permit, with the material Nzombo prospect, reflects our continued strategy of expanding our exploration portfolio with high impact prospects, which can be developed leveraging our existing facilities, and confirms our longstanding partnership with the Republic of Congo,” said Kevin McLachlan, Senior Vice-President Exploration at TotalEnergies.
Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, expressed satisfaction with the award, describing it as a promising offshore block. The permit area features water depths exceeding 1,000 meters and is seen as having significant exploration potential.
