Fires Up Two Major Angola Projects, Adding 60,000 Barrels Daily
TotalEnergies sent shockwaves through the energy sector today as the French giant announced the simultaneous startup of two major offshore Angola projects, instantly adding 60,000 barrels per day to the nation’s oil output.
The BEGONIA and CLOV Phase 3 projects mark a watershed moment for Angola’s energy ambitions, with each development contributing 30,000 barrels daily through innovative subsea tie-back operations to existing FPSO vessels. BEGONIA, located 150 kilometers off Angola’s coast, represents the country’s first-ever inter-block development, connecting Blocks 17 and 17/06 through five wells tied to the PAZFLOR FPSO.
Meanwhile, CLOV Phase 3 in Block 17 utilizes a four-well subsea configuration tied to the CLOV FPSO, situated 140 kilometers offshore. The projects leverage existing production capacity while delivering low-cost, low-emission operations that support TotalEnergies’ upstream production growth target of over 3% in 2025.
“These two first oils will help Angola maintain its production levels above 1 million barrels per day,” declared Paulino Jerónimo, Chairman of ANPG’s Board of Directors. “BEGONIA is the first project between blocks in Angola with significant local content, while CLOV 3 represents intense collaboration between the concessionaire and contractor group.”
Nicolas Terraz, E&P President at TotalEnergies, emphasized the strategic importance: “We are leveraging available production capacity in existing FPSOs while reducing costs and emissions.”
