Tanzania and Algeria Strengthen Oil and Gas Regulatory Cooperation

Tanzania’s Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) and Algeria’s National Agency for the Valorization of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT) have established cooperation aimed at exchanging experiences and building capacity in regulating oil and natural gas exploration and production activities.

The meeting, held in Algiers on Sunday, was attended by ALNAFT President Samir Bekhti and PURA representatives led by Shigela Malosha, representing Director General Engineer Charles Sangweni, along with a delegation of Tanzanian leaders and experts.

Malosha emphasized that cooperation between the two institutions is crucial for the growth of upstream petroleum activities in both countries, as it will enhance the efficiency of regulatory and supervisory activities in oil and gas exploration and production.

“Through capacity building, training, and exchange of experiences on how PURA and ALNAFT perform their duties, it is clear that this partnership will be a catalyst for the two institutions to perform even better,” Malosha stated.

ALNAFT President Bekhti noted that the partnership is important and will benefit both sides, considering that PURA and ALNAFT carry out similar responsibilities in their respective countries.

Key areas identified for experience-sharing and capacity building include regulation and oversight of oil and gas exploration and production activities, petroleum data management, participation of local companies in oil and gas projects, and the development of relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines.
