South Africa Approves Sasol Gas Price Increase Amid Market Pressures

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa has approved a 4% increase in Sasol Gas’s maximum price, raising it from R87.04 to R90.57 per GigaJoule for the second quarter of 2025/2026. The adjustment responds to rising costs of gas imported from Mozambique, oil-linked derivatives fluctuations, exchange rate movements, and US Producer Price Index shifts.

This quarterly adjustment follows Nersa’s June 2025 strategy granting Sasol Gas authority to revise maximum prices every three months based on acquisition cost changes. Regulator Nomfundo Maseti clarified that the maximum price adjustment doesn’t necessarily translate to equivalent increases in actual customer charges, with Sasol Gas expected to charge below maximum rates.
