Senegal Revises Sangomar Oil Output Forecast Upward for 2025
Senegal has increased its 2025 oil production forecast for the Sangomar offshore field to 34.5 million barrels, up from the previous estimate of 30.53 million barrels. The field, operated by Australia’s Woodside Energy Group, has exceeded initial production expectations since beginning operations in June 2024, making Senegal an oil-producing nation.
From January to August 2025, Sangomar has already produced more than 24 million barrels of crude oil, according to the energy ministry. This strong performance prompted the upward revision of annual production targets, reflecting both the field’s productive capacity and successful operational management.
The Sangomar field represents a transformative development for Senegal’s economy, marking the country’s entry into oil production and providing a significant new revenue stream. Woodside Energy Group’s successful operation of the field demonstrates the potential for continued growth in Senegal’s emerging oil sector.
The positive production results from Sangomar could attract additional international investment in Senegal’s offshore resources and establish the country as an emerging player in West Africa’s oil production landscape.
