Revolutionary FLNG Unit Shatters Industry Records with 33-Month Delivery for Eni’s Congo Project
Italy’s energy giant Eni has achieved an unprecedented milestone in the global LNG sector, with the sailaway ceremony for its revolutionary FLNG Nguya unit setting a new industry benchmark for time-to-market execution. The massive 376-meter-long floating facility, built by China’s Wison New Energies, completed its journey from contract award to departure in just 33 months, establishing what industry experts are calling “a new standard for international energy projects.”
FLNG Nguya boasts impressive specifications with storage capacity for 180,000 cubic meters of LNG and 45,000 cubic meters of LPG, plus liquefaction capacity of 2.4 million tons per annum. The unit will join the already operational FLNG Tango at Congo’s Marine XII concession, boosting total project capacity to 3 million tons per annum.
“Through our unique EPCIC one-stop service, we minimized interface across the project execution period and ultimately delivered one month ahead of contract schedule,” said Wei Huaqing, Vice President of Wison New Energies. The facility integrates cutting-edge low-carbon features, including dual-fuel generators and waste heat recovery units, while incorporating Chart Industries’ proprietary IPSMR liquefaction technology for the first time in a floating facility.
Work on subsea infrastructure is progressing on schedule, with mooring and startup expected by year-end to complete Phase 2 of Congo’s first LNG project.
