ReconAfrica Set to Drill High-Stakes Kavango West 1X Well Before Month’s End
Reconnaissance Energy Africa is preparing to spud its crucial Kavango West 1X exploration well before the end of July, with the drilling rig safely positioned on-site and all necessary permits secured from regulators. The well represents the second test in the expansive Damara Fold Belt play and could unlock significant hydrocarbon potential in Namibia.
The exploration well is planned to reach a total depth of approximately 3,800 metres and is expected to penetrate over 1,500 metres of Otavi carbonate reservoir section, which serves as the primary target of the Damara Fold Belt play. The prospect is a large structural fold identified on modern 2D seismic data, extending over 22 kilometers long by three kilometers wide.
ReconAfrica has identified over 19 prospects and leads mapped in the Damara Fold Belt trend, with an additional 5.0 million acres captured in a recently executed Memorandum of Understanding in offsetting Angola. Company President and CEO Brian Reinsborough emphasized the importance of this play-opening well for shareholders, local communities, and Namibia’s broader energy industry.
The company also announced the resignation of Director Iman Hill effective July 31, 2025, due to foreign work obligations, leaving the board with five members, three of whom are independent directors.
