President El-Sisi Pushes Egypt’s Energy Sector Development Strategy

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has directed continued development of newly discovered wells while intensifying exploration activities to enhance Egypt’s position as a regional energy hub. During meetings with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi, the president emphasized providing incentives to attract international investment and boost petroleum sector production.

Minister Badawi reported on new discoveries and ongoing projects, highlighting efforts to attract international companies and settle foreign operator dues. Natural gas demand increased 14% in 2025, while production fell 25% over two years and crude oil production decreased 10%.

Between July 2024 and May 2025, the ministry drilled 75 wells, resulting in 40 new oil and gas discoveries with estimated recoverable reserves of 42 million barrels of oil and condensates plus 1.3 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
