Nigeria’s Anti-Theft Campaign Delivers Major Victory as Crude Oil Pipeline Receipts Soar to Near-Perfect Levels

Nigeria’s war against crude oil theft has achieved a stunning breakthrough, with pipeline and terminal receipts now approaching 100 percent from devastating lows of just 30 percent, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited announced Monday.

Group Managing Director Bayo Ojulari revealed the dramatic turnaround during a defense summit, crediting enhanced security interventions and intelligence operations for dismantling what he described as sophisticated international syndicates exploiting security gaps in the Niger Delta region.

“Today I can proudly report that our pipeline and terminal receipts of crude oil, which were as low as 30 percent, are attaining close to 100 percent due to the support of security forces and intelligence agencies,” Ojulari declared.

The transformation represents a critical victory for Nigeria, which has struggled to meet its oil production targets due to widespread theft and pipeline vandalism. The country has premised its 2025 national budget on crude oil production of 2.06 million barrels per day at $75 per barrel.

According to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, Nigeria’s oil output recorded significant growth in July 2025, averaging 1.71 million barrels per day. The improved security has virtually eliminated what Ojulari called “the devastating impact of crude theft and pipeline attacks.”
