Nigeria is ramping up oil exploration across the country with a strategic focus on the Kolmani Basin as part of efforts to reach an ambitious target of two million barrels of crude oil production per day, according to Minister of State for Petroleum, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri.
During the groundbreaking ceremony for the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy in Alkaleri, Lokpobiri emphasized that Nigeria’s production had fallen below one million barrels daily before the current administration took office, making the Kolmani exploration critical to hitting national production goals. The federal government has pledged full support for Bauchi State’s vision to contribute to national growth through expanded economic activities in the oil sector.
Governor Bala Mohammed described the event as “a significant milestone” in his administration’s quest to develop vocational education and enhance youth and women empowerment in the oil and gas sector. The state has implemented measures to boost enrollment, including directing each local government to sponsor ten students and subsidizing 50 percent of tuition costs for all students. The project’s N6 billion budget comes partly from federal allocations to support the academy, which has already enrolled over 500 candidates at its temporary location.
