Nigeria Commits to Steady Gas Supply for West African Energy Security
The Nigerian Federal Government has reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining reliable gas supply to Togo, Benin Republic, and Ghana as part of efforts to combat energy poverty and stimulate economic growth across West Africa. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, made this commitment during a transition meeting with outgoing and incoming managing directors of the West African Gas Pipeline Company.
As Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the West African Gas Pipeline, Ekpo highlighted Nigeria’s significant progress in recent years through infrastructure investments, gas flaring reductions, and increased supply for both domestic consumption and exports. The minister emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s vision of eliminating energy poverty throughout Nigeria, West Africa, and the broader continent.
The government’s commitment comes as reliable gas supply becomes increasingly recognized as fundamental to powering industries and accelerating regional economic development. Incoming WAPCo Managing Director Abiodun Bodunrin assured stakeholders that his priority would be guaranteeing uninterrupted gas supply from Nigeria to consumers across the region.
