New Fortress Energy Strengthens Egypt’s LNG Import Capacity with Second FSRU
Egypt’s natural gas import infrastructure is receiving a substantial boost as New Fortress Energy deploys its second floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) in the country under a five-year agreement with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS).
The 138,250 cubic meter Energos Winter FSRU will operate at EGAS’ LNG import terminal in Damietta, joining the Energos Eskimo as early as August. The 2014-built 160,000 cubic meter Energos Eskimo will serve at EGAS’ Ain Sokhna terminal for the next decade.
“Under this agreement, NFE’s second FSRU, Energos Winter, will provide regasification services at the Damietta terminal, contributing to the security of natural gas supply for the Arab Republic of Egypt over the next five years,” said Yasseen Mohamed, executive managing director of EGAS.
The deployment strengthens Egypt’s LNG import capacity significantly. New Fortress Energy’s 2021-built 174,000 cubic meter Energos Power has been stationed in Egypt since late May, following contract cancellation with Deutsche ReGas in February. Egypt now operates four FSRU units in total, with the country’s first FSRU working since 2024.
The expanded FSRU fleet enhances Egypt’s energy security by providing flexible natural gas supply options while supporting the country’s power generation needs and industrial development goals.
