NAMIBIAN OFFSHORE BREAKTHROUGH: RHINO-HALLIBURTON PARTNERSHIP STRIKES OIL IN FRONTIER WATERS
In a major development for Namibia’s emerging energy sector, Rhino Resources and Halliburton have successfully delivered two exploration wells on Block 2914 under Petroleum Exploration License (PEL) 85 offshore Namibia. This breakthrough operation was orchestrated from Halliburton’s newly established operational bases in Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, and Luderitz, combining cutting-edge technology with local expertise.
“This success demonstrates what happens when world-class technology meets local collaboration and a shared long-term vision,” said Antoine Berel, vice president of Halliburton sub-Saharan Africa. “Our new infrastructure across Namibia enabled this discovery, which will help unlock the country’s energy potential and establish it as an African energy hub.”
The success comes as international attention increasingly focuses on Namibia’s offshore basins, setting a new benchmark for regional energy development.
Travis Smithard, CEO of Rhino Resources, emphasized the dual benefits of the campaign: “From the start, we promised our partners that Rhino’s exploration in Namibia would both prove geological potential and deliver lasting benefits for the country. These discoveries on Block 2914 mark a promising beginning to our journey, contributing to the foundation of Namibia’s growing oil and gas industry.”
The partnership has already made strides in knowledge transfer and capacity building through the Rhino-Halliburton Technology Centre at the University of Namibia (UNAM) Southern Campus, established last October to advance geoscience education and research across the nation.
