Morocco Launches Major LNG Infrastructure Project with 1,200MW Power Station

Morocco’s Ministry of Energy Transition & Sustainable Development has issued an invitation for expressions of interest in a comprehensive liquefied natural gas infrastructure project at Nador West Med Port.

The ambitious project includes an LNG import terminal, pipeline networks, and a gas power station with approximately 1,200MW capacity. The power plant will be developed under Morocco’s independent power production regime, while the pipeline network will supply industrial consumers in Nador, Kenitra, and Mohammedia.

The LNG terminal is expected to handle 500 million standard cubic feet per day, with 48-inch diameter pipelines capable of transporting 750 mmscfd. The terminal will feature either a floating storage and regasification unit or a floating storage unit with jetty-based regasification elements.

This project represents the first phase of Morocco’s updated gas roadmap, scheduled for execution from 2025 to 2027. The roadmap includes the gradual development of critical gas network infrastructure necessary to support LNG importation and boost domestic gas production throughout the country.
