Meren Energy Advances Multi-Basin Offshore Development Strategy
Meren Energy, formerly Africa Oil, is progressing multiple offshore oil projects across Namibia, South Africa, and Nigeria. The company’s strategic focus includes developing the Venus oil field in Namibia’s Orange Basin, where current plans call for up to 40 subsea wells tied back to an FPSO with 160,000 barrels per day production capacity.
The partners are completing front-end engineering design work in Q4 2025 and plan to submit environmental impact statements to Namibian authorities in the same quarter, with a final investment decision expected in the first half of 2026.
In South Africa’s Orange Basin, Meren holds an 18% interest in Block 3B/4B led by TotalEnergies, with the first exploration well potentially drilling next year targeting the Nayla prospect. The company also maintains partnerships in Nigeria’s deepwater Niger Delta Basin, including producing fields Akpo and Egina, where exploration drilling will resume next year.
