Meet our African Energy Leader of the Week

This week, we proudly spotlight Professor Anthony Olusegun Adegbulugbe, a distinguished energy scholar, technocrat, and entrepreneur whose exceptional career spans academia, public policy, and industry leadership. Renowned globally for his expertise in energy systems and sustainable development, Prof. Adegbulugbe stands out as one of Nigeria’s leading voices in energy planning and climate change strategy.

As a former Special Adviser on Energy to President Olusegun Obasanjo, he played a strategic role in shaping Nigeria’s National Energy Policy and was instrumental in the formulation of the National Gas Master Plan—a key framework guiding the country’s gas infrastructure and utilization. His deep knowledge and commitment to environmental sustainability earned him a place on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the Nobel Peace Prize-winning body that has profoundly influenced global climate policy.

In academia, Prof. Adegbulugbe serves as a Professor of Energy Planning and Management at the University of Ibadan, where he has mentored a new generation of energy professionals and researchers. His influence, however, extends well beyond the classroom.

As Chairman and CEO of Green Energy International Limited, an indigenous oil and gas company, he leads innovative efforts to integrate energy development with environmental sustainability and community empowerment. Under his leadership, the company is recognized for pioneering clean, inclusive energy projects that align with both national priorities and global climate goals.

Widely published, highly respected, and consistently impactful, Prof. Adegbulugbe embodies the ideal fusion of academic excellence and real-world application. His work continues to shape Africa’s energy transition and serves as a guiding force in the continent’s pursuit of a sustainable and equitable energy future.
