Libya’s Zueitina Restarts Critical Diesel Production After Decade-Long Shutdown
Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) has successfully restarted the diesel production unit at the Zallah Field, operated by Zueitina Oil Company, ending a nearly 11-year hiatus that had hampered the field’s operational efficiency.
The diesel unit, which had been offline since March 2015 due to a complex technical malfunction, has been restored to full operational efficiency in what the NOC described as a notably short timeframe. The facility is now producing approximately 500 barrels of diesel per day, providing critical fuel support for field operations and ongoing production activities.
According to NOC officials, the recent rehabilitation effort resolved longstanding technical challenges that had limited the field’s ability to meet its internal fuel requirements. The restart will enhance operational reliability at the Zallah Field while reducing dependence on external fuel supplies, aligning with broader efforts by Libya’s energy authorities to rehabilitate infrastructure, improve efficiency, and stabilize production across the oil sector.
The development reflects gradual progress within Libya’s energy industry, where targeted technical interventions are helping restore capacity following years of disruption. As the country continues to rebuild its oil and gas infrastructure, projects like the Zallah diesel unit restart are viewed as essential steps toward long-term energy security and economic recovery.
