Libya Launches First Solar Power Plant in Historic Energy Transition
Libya has commissioned its inaugural 1 MW solar power plant in Kufra, marking a significant step in the country’s renewable energy journey. The facility, designed with a peak capacity of 1.14 MWp, is expected to generate 2,182 MWh of electricity annually, serving as a model for sustainable development across the region.
Developed by Infinity Libya, a subsidiary of renewable energy company Infinity Power, the project was constructed with Lamsa for General Contracting and Real Estate Investment as the main contractor. The facility will meet the energy needs of the Al-Jouf Free Zone while displacing approximately 545,000 liters of diesel and reducing CO2 emissions by nearly 1,300 tons per year.
Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Co-Founder and Chairman of Infinity Power, emphasized the project’s broader significance, stating it represents what’s possible when strong partnerships and local talent unite for clean, reliable energy. The plant will be operated by locally trained engineers from Infinity Libya, supporting national technical capacity development and renewable energy expansion.
