Khalda Petroleum Slashes $18 Million in Costs Through Revolutionary Drilling Innovation

Egyptian oil company Khalda Petroleum has achieved remarkable operational breakthroughs, saving a staggering $18 million through innovative drilling technologies in just 18 months. The company, partnering with Apache, revolutionized drilling operations in Egypt’s Western Desert with game-changing efficiency improvements.

The breakthrough came through optimizing drill pipe connection times, reducing them from 24 minutes to just 18 minutes on average, with some wells achieving record-breaking 12.5-minute connections. This seemingly small improvement translated into massive savings – 60 days of time reduction and $3 million in cost savings during 2024 alone.

Building on this success, the first half of 2025 saw even more dramatic results. Khalda drilled 54 wells with an additional 15% efficiency gain, yielding 180 days of time savings and over $15 million in cost reductions. The company has set an ambitious target to reduce connection times to just 12 minutes by 2026.

The innovations were developed in collaboration with international advisory firm HLB and energy technology giants SLB and Baker Hughes, focusing on pipe connection procedures and well path surveying optimization.
