Katsina State Achieves Remarkable Clean Energy Milestone with Over 1,000 MW
Katsina State has reached a groundbreaking renewable energy achievement, surpassing 1,020 megawatts of clean power generation in just over two years, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda announced during the state’s 38th anniversary celebrations. The remarkable milestone positions Katsina as a leader in Nigeria’s renewable energy transition.
“Katsina is not waiting for the future, we are building it today,” Governor Radda declared while commissioning multiple renewable energy projects at the state secretariat. The comprehensive program includes large-scale deployment of solar arrays, wind systems, and mini-hydro installations guided by principles of prudence, discipline, and transparency.
The ambitious renewable energy expansion aligns directly with Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan and supports the national target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The deployment strategy has prioritized critical infrastructure, with hospitals, schools, water facilities, and government offices now powered by reliable renewable energy systems ensuring uninterrupted essential services.
Among the celebration highlights was the commissioning of dedicated solar plants for the state secretariat and General Muhammadu Buhari administrative complex, while the General Hospital in Katsina received a comprehensive solar system to safeguard critical medical care. The government has also successfully revived a previously neglected wind farm, combining it with solar power to create Nigeria’s first local hybrid energy project.
Governor Radda emphasized that the energy initiative extends beyond electricity supply to strengthen industry and transportation sectors. A nearly completed compressed natural gas station will soon provide cheaper, cleaner fuel for factories and vehicles, while hundreds of electric tricycles are being introduced to reduce urban emissions and noise pollution.
