Heirs Energies Successfully Restarts 37-Year Dormant Well
Nigerian energy company Heirs Energies has achieved a remarkable feat by successfully restarting an oil well that had been shut down for 37 years. The accomplishment demonstrates the company’s resilience and technical capabilities in overcoming complex operational challenges.
Chief Executive Officer Osa Igiehon revealed that the previous operator was unable to restart the Niger Delta well for over three decades, and it took Heirs Energies four years of persistent effort to bring it back online. The challenges were not technical but stemmed from social and security issues that had long prevented the restart.
The company previously demonstrated its operational excellence by ramping production by 100 percent in 100 days through revamping approximately 30 idle wells. When Heirs Energies began operations, there were up to 40 wells producing, and within 100 days, they reactivated another 30 wells, nearly doubling production through a focused program enabled by experienced staff and strong community relationships.
Igiehon emphasized that the company operates with a 100 percent Nigerian workforce and utilizes 95 percent indigenous contractors, helping to change the narrative about Nigeria’s onshore oil operations and proving that domestic assets can achieve near 100 percent production volumes.
