Guinea-Conakry Unveils Ambitious National Energy Pact for Universal Access by 2030
Guinea-Conakry has launched a comprehensive National Energy Pact targeting universal electricity access by 2030 and a 67% renewable energy share in its national mix. The initiative, part of the World Bank and African Development Bank’s joint Mission 300 program, aims to connect 8.9 million additional people to electricity while raising clean cooking access to 35%.
The plan encompasses five key pillars including competitive production, grid expansion, decentralized electrification, private sector investment, and financial viability. The strategy includes accelerating solar development, improving transmission infrastructure, and deploying 300,000 prepaid meters by year-end.
The government aims to reduce reliance on state subsidies through better revenue collection while transforming Guinea-Conakry into a regional power exporter. The finalized pact will be presented at the UN General Assembly in September 2025.
World Bank Country Manager Issa Diaw emphasized that achieving universal access will require coordinated efforts across government, private sector, and communities to shift Guinea’s energy strategy fundamentally.
