Ghana’s Gas Export Capacity Receives Major Boost from FPSO Upgrade

Malaysia’s Yinson Production has achieved a significant technical milestone by successfully integrating the associated gas system into the non-associated gas infrastructure aboard the FPSO John Agyekum Kufuor, substantially increasing gas export capacity to Ghana’s national grid.

The project, completed in less than four months, involved modifications to the vessel’s gas export system, with Project Manager Ralph Mills-Tettey overseeing the final stages of installation, commissioning, and launch. According to Ghana’s Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, the gas supply has been upgraded from 245 MMscfd to 270 MMscfd, representing a significant step toward ensuring reliable and sustainable energy supply for the nation.

The enhancement is expected to bolster Ghana’s power generation and support ongoing economic development. The government of Ghana and project client Eni have commended Yinson Production for the achievement, recognizing its role in strengthening national energy security.

FPSO John Agyekum Kufuor contributes to the Offshore Cape Three Points integrated project operated by Eni, with partners Ghana National Petroleum Corporation and Vitol, developing oil and natural gas fields offshore Ghana. Oil production from the Sankofa and Gye Nyame facilities began in 2017, with gas production following in 2018.
