Ghana Declares New Oil and Gas Discoveries Commercially Viable
Ghana’s energy sector received a major boost with the formal Declaration of Commerciality submitted on July 3, 2025, for the Eban-Akoma discoveries within the Cape Three Points Block 4, marking the conclusion of the appraisal program.
Minister for Energy and Green Transition John Abdulai Jinapor highlighted the significance of the discovery, stating it represents a major boost to Ghana’s oil and gas sector and demonstrates the immense potential of offshore resources to fuel economic transformation, enhance energy security, and drive industrialization.
The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation confirmed that the Eban-1X oil well and Akoma-1X gas and condensate well have been officially assessed as commercially viable, representing a pivotal step toward unlocking new domestic energy supplies. The joint venture partners, including Eni Ghana Exploration & Production, Vitol Upstream Tano, Woodfields Upstream Ghana, and GNPC Exploration and Production Company, are now preparing a plan of development focusing on optimizing resource recovery and maximizing value creation.
GNPC Acting Chief Executive Officer Kwame Ntow Amoah emphasized that the milestone proves the value of partnerships and commitment to driving growth in the upstream sector, aligning with the government’s goal to halt the decline in oil production and boost overall output.
