Gabon Targets 200,000 BPD Production with Deepwater Focus
Gabon is pursuing renewed upstream development momentum following the March 2025 Bourdon discovery in the offshore Dussafu License, alongside production increases from Perenco, BW Energy, and VAALCO Energy. The government aims to boost national output to 200,000 barrels per day by unlocking value from both mature fields and frontier acreage.
The Ministry of Petroleum has launched initiatives to attract new independent and mid-cap operators to Gabon’s underexplored deepwater acreage through flexible Production Sharing Contract terms, streamlined permitting, and improved data accessibility. Minister Nguema Nguema identified the deepwater drive as critical to maintaining competitiveness in the shifting global energy landscape.
Gabon is simultaneously emphasizing natural gas development through its Gas Master Plan to strengthen domestic infrastructure and diversify energy exports. Major investments include Perenco and GOC’s $983 million commitment to a new LNG facility in Port-Gentil, building on Perenco’s existing $2 billion investment in the Cap Lopez LNG terminal featuring a FLNG vessel expected to begin production in 2026.
