Egyptian Company Wins Major Iraqi Oilfield Maintenance Contract
Egypt-based Alexandria Petroleum Maintenance Company (Petromaint) has secured a $121 million contract to provide maintenance services at Iraq’s Zubair oilfield. The three-year agreement began operations several weeks ago and represents a significant expansion of Egyptian energy services in the Iraqi market.
Ahmed Hassan, Petromaint’s assistant general manager for business development, confirmed that the company has already started maintenance operations at the facility. Petromaint plans to broaden its market presence by expanding cooperation with international operators in Iraq, particularly Italy’s Eni.
The Zubair oilfield, discovered in 1949, is located 20 kilometers southwest of Basra and ranks among the world’s largest oilfields. The field contains proven reserves of approximately 4-4.5 billion barrels of oil and currently produces around 450,000 barrels per day. Expansion initiatives aim to boost production capacity to between 850,000 barrels per day and more than one million barrels per day.
Hassan emphasized that regional development represents a primary strategic focus for Petromaint as the company leverages its staff, technological expertise, and international connections to strengthen its position as a leading oilfield services provider in the Middle East and North Africa region.
