Egypt Strengthens Mediterranean Gas Exploration with Eni and BP Partnership

The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company have signed a new agreement with Italy’s Eni and British BP to begin exploration activities in the Mediterranean Sea, including drilling an exploratory well in the Temsah concession area.

The agreement was signed by key officials including EGPC Chairman Salah Abdel Kerim, EGAS Chairman Yassin Mohamed, Eni Egypt General Manager Francesco Gaspari, and BP Egypt Regional Vice President Wail Shaheen, in the presence of Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi.

Eni plays a significant role in Egypt’s energy sector with activities spanning hydrocarbon development, production, gas projects, crude oil refining and marketing, and participation in the Damietta natural gas liquefaction plant. Meanwhile, BP has maintained a substantial presence in Egypt for over 60 years, focusing primarily on natural gas exploration, development, and production.

The partnership represents part of Egypt’s broader plan to enhance natural gas exploration and support opportunities for new discoveries in the Mediterranean region.
